A/HRC/42/15/Add.1
Position of the State of Qatar on the recommendations
resulting from the review of its third national report to the
universal periodic review mechanism
1.
The State of Qatar reaffirms that it is fully committed to continuous action to protect
and promote human rights and reiterates its permanent support for the contractual and noncontractual United Nations human rights mechanisms, including the universal periodic
review mechanism, which provides an opportunity for self-analysis, and for a review of the
current situation and best practices in the promotion and protection of human rights.
2.
The State of Qatar carefully studied the recommendations submitted to the State
during the review of its third periodic report to the Universal Periodic Review Working
Group, namely 270 recommendations, and appropriate decisions were taken following
consultations with the competent authorities.
3.
The State of Qatar expresses support for 178 recommendations, it being understood
that support means that the recommendation has been implemented, that it is in the process
of being implemented or that the State will take steps to implement it.
4.
The State of Qatar has taken note of 92 recommendations on account of their
incompatibility with the Islamic sharia, the Constitution or domestic legislation, on grounds
related to sovereignty, or because they require further study or are based on unsubstantiated
allegations. It should be noted that a number of these recommendations were partially
acceptable.
