Frequent questions
Where do the documents in RightDocs come from?
What sort of things can I do in RightDocs? What information can I find?
RightDocs hosts United Nations Human Rights Council resolutions, decisions, presidential statements and reports. You can navigate through the database in two main ways: by searching different keywords in the search bar, and by toggling different filters in the righthand menu. Filters include topic, sponsoring state, co-sponsoring state, session, date and more.
Information about Documents can be viewed in a table or as cards. Once you’ve found one of interest, you can click to view the related PDF within RightDocs itself (without having to download anything), or you can directly download it to your own device.
Can I search across all documents?
Yes, RightDocs allows you to search across the content of all documents. This is helpful to see if a specific wording has already been used or an issue covered in unexpected places. To perform a full-text search, you can simply use the search bar. You will find a few tips to refine your query underneath the search bar.
Please note that you can also combine the filters on the right with full text search. For example, if you first apply filters so that only resolutions sponsored by a specific country are shown, you can then conduct a full text search across those filtered results.
Can I save searches?
Yes, when you perform a search query or use filters, the URL automatically adjusts to reflect these. To return later, you only need to bookmark the link in your browser. When new information is added to the database that would fall into your search query or filtered results, it will be included — simply follow the same bookmarked URL.
Can I export data from RightDocs?
Yes, you can export data from RightDocs as CSV files, which can be opened in Excel or other data analysis software. To export data, you will need to:
1. Filter so that only the cards you want to export appear.
2. Click on "Export CSV" in the lower right-hand corner.
It is also possible to access all of RightDocs’ information through the API. This requires more technical skills; information is provided here: https://right-docs.uwazi.io/api/. If you need further information, please get in touch.
How is RightDocs funded?
RightDocs is a project of HURIDOCS, an NGO that helps human rights groups gather, organise and use information to create positive change in the world. It received initial financial support from the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the UN in Geneva.
HURIDOCS is funded by a mix of grants, payments from human rights organisations for services that we provide, and individual donations. Learn more here.
If RightDocs benefits your work, please consider donating to HURIDOCS to help us maintain the project.
I think there’s a document missing in the collection. How can I report it?
RightDocs is a labour of love, and in spite of our resource constraints we do our best to keep the database up to date. It’s possible, however, that some documents have slipped through the cracks. If you notice anything is missing, please let us know by getting in touch here.
