The report describes the support given to the work of the Council and its mechanisms, focusing on the universal periodic review and the special procedures. It also elaborates on progress in, and challenges to, specific thematic human rights issues. It provides an overview of the work of OHCHR at the country and regional levels, including its 56 field presences, and highlights efforts to respond rapidly in the face of deteriorating human rights situations. A report on the Durban Review Conference is provided, as are strategies to ensure the effective implementation of its Outcome Document.
