C. Measures concerning the legislative and institutional framework 8. The Government continues to take vigorous action to strengthen the institutional and legislative framework in order to uphold human rights and fundamental freedoms. The Egyptian Constitution guarantees the independence of the National Council for Human Rights, and all domestic legislation is being reviewed to ensure that it complies with the provisions of the 2014 Constitution. The Government has achieved progress in the fight against corruption at all levels, has fostered the principle of accountability and has developed a National Anti-Corruption Strategy (2019–2022). D. Procedures and guarantees pertaining to the judicial system 9. National legislation abounds with the requisite guarantees of a fair trial in line with international norms. The State is committed to respecting the principle of separation of powers, and to respecting and promoting the independence of the judiciary as the basic guarantee for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
