The report is divided into five sections. Section I contains a brief introduction, while the evolution of the current international consensus regarding the role of the family in sustainable development, including poverty reduction policies is described in section II. An overview of the international human rights standards pertaining to family life and the elements of a human rights-based approach to family policies are given in section III, while concrete examples of measures taken by States in implementing their international obligations regarding the protection of the family are provided in section IV.
