A/HRC/22/48
Secretary-General reiterates his calls on the Islamic Republic of Iran to institute a
moratorium on the death penalty pursuant to the General Assembly resolutions
62/149, 63/168, 65/206 and 67/176 on moratorium, and raise the age of criminal
liability of children.
62.
While welcoming efforts made by the Islamic Republic of Iran to report to
human rights treaty bodies, the Secretary-General calls upon the Government to
provide the further information requested by the Human Rights Committee, followup to concluding observations of the various treaty bodies, and ratify the Convention
on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and the Convention
against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
63.
The Secretary-General regrets that, despite repeated requests for a country
visit, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic
of Iran has not yet been admitted to the country. The Secretary-General renews his
call on the Government to fully cooperate in the fulfilment of the Special
Rapporteur’s mandate by inviting him to the country in the near future. The
Secretary-General equally encourages the Government to strengthen cooperation with
the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, other
relevant United Nations agencies, programmes and funds, as well as with civil society,
with a view to enhancing the promotion and protection of human rights in the Islamic
Republic of Iran.
