A/HRC/16/24 United Nations General Assembly Distr.: General 5 May 2011 Original: English Human Rights Council Sixteenth session Agenda item 7 Human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories Report of the Committee of independent experts in international humanitarian and human rights law established pursuant to Council resolution 13/9* ** Summary The present report is submitted to the Human Rights Council pursuant to resolution 15/6, in which the Council “renews and resumes” the mandate of the Committee established in Council resolution 13/9. The Committee has sought to assess investigations for compliance with international standards of independence, impartiality, effectiveness, thoroughness and promptness. In attempting to fulfill its renewed mandate, the Committee reviewed numerous documents, reports and articles submitted by non-governmental organizations, and held interviews with representatives of governmental and nongovernmental organizations, as well as with Israeli and Palestinian victims and witnesses. The Committee undertook one field mission to Amman to interview relevant actors, including Government officials and human rights advocates.
