International Convention for the Protection of
All Persons from Enforced Disappearance
The Human Rights Council,
Recalling General Assembly resolution 47/133 of 18 December 1992, by
which the Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Protection of All Persons from
Enforced Disappearance as a body of principles for all States,
Also recalling Commission on Human Rights resolution 2001/46 of 23 April
2001 establishing the Inter-sessional open-ended working group to elaborate a draft
legally binding normative instrument for the protection of all persons from enforced
disappearance, and Commission resolution 2005/27 of 19 April 2005,
Taking note of the report of the Working Group (E/CN.4/2006/57) and the
Group’s decision to conclude its work and transmit the draft international convention
for the protection of all persons from enforced disappearance to the Commission on
Human Rights for adoption,
Welcoming the offer by France to host the signing ceremony for the
Convention in Paris,
1.
Adopts the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons
from Enforced Disappearance as annexed to this resolution;
2.
Recommends to the General Assembly adoption of the International
Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance;
3.
Recommends that, once adopted by the General Assembly, the
Convention be opened for signature at a signing ceremony in Paris;
4.
Recommends to the General Assembly adoption of the following draft
resolution:
