The Working Group reminds the media of their important role as a public watchdog with special responsibilities for ensuring that factual and reliable information about people of African descent is reported. It also urges the media to play its role in increasing the visibility of people of African descent and their culture, including through representation in the media sector. 84. The Working Group would like to reiterate its satisfaction at the Government’s willingness to engage in dialogue, cooperation and action to combat the racial discrimination faced by Afro-Ecuadorians. It expresses its hope that its report will support the Government in this process, and its willingness to assist in this important endeavour. 18
