The report looks briefly at the long-standing United Nations engagement with the issue of human rights protection in the administration of justice, and provides a short outline of the human rights norms and standards relevant in the administration of justice. The following chapters set out a number of developments and activities undertaken by the United Nations system in the period since the last report on this topic by the Secretary-General to the Council, with a focus on juvenile justice and the conditions of women and children in detention.
