According to the information received, up to 20, 000 people may be forced to leave their homes as a result of land being acquired for the construction of an integrated steel plant and a captive port by Korean steel corporation, Pohang Iron and Steel Corporation (POSCO). Reports suggest that the construction of the steel plant will result in serious violations of the human rights of affected people, including the right to an adequate standard of living, right to food, right to adequate housing, right to water and sanitation, right to health, right to education, and other related rights of people living in extreme poverty. Reports further indicate that the rights of those opposing the project have been suppressed resulting in a series of human rights abuses. A/HRC/27/72 74 Date Type
