Resolution 6/24.
World Programme for Human Rights Education
The Human Rights Council,
Recalling General Assembly resolutions 59/113 A of 10 December 2004,
59/113 B of 14 July 2005 and 60/251 of 15 March 2006, as well as Commission on
Human Rights resolution 2005/61 of 20 April 2005 and Sub-Commission for the
Promotion and Protection of Human Rights resolution 2006/19 of 24 August 2006,
concerning the World Programme for Human Rights Education and the Plan of
Action for its first phase (2005-2007);
Reaffirming the need for continued actions at the international level to support
national efforts to achieve the internationally agreed development goals, including
those contained in the United Nations Millennium Declaration, in particular universal
access to basic education for all, by 2015;

Takes note of the progress report of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Human Rights on the first phase (2005-2007) of the World
Programme for Human Rights Education, (A/HRC/4/85);

Takes note also of the work done so far by the United Nations Inter-
Agency Coordinating Committee on Human Rights Education in the School System,
and of the future activities, in particular in the areas of technical assistance and
information-sharing, identified by the Committee as requiring support by the United
Nations system in the implementation of the Plan of Action at the national level;

Decides to extend for two more years (2008-2009) the first phase of
the World Programme for Human Rights Education in order to allow all relevant
actors to accomplish the implementation of the Plan of Action, focusing on the
primary and secondary school systems;
