A/HRC/43/37 United Nations General Assembly Distr.: General 14 January 2020 Original: English Human Rights Council Forty-third session 24 February–20 March 2020 Agenda item 5 Human rights bodies and mechanisms Overview of consultations on the contribution of the Human Rights Council to the prevention of human rights violations Report of the rapporteurs* Summary The present report is presented by Yvette Stevens, Pablo de Greiff and Nils Muižnieks, the rapporteurs appointed pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 38/18 on the contribution of the Council to the prevention of human rights violations. It provides an overview of the two seminars that the rapporteurs organized in Geneva in April and October 2019, as well as the consultations they conducted in Geneva and New York. The report makes recommendations on how to improve the preventive role of the Council and its mechanisms, as outlined in General Assembly resolution 60/251, paragraph 5 (f). It also makes suggestions, as requested in resolution 38/18, on how the Council can work more effectively with all pillars of the United Nations system with a view to strengthening system-wide coherence and contributing to sustaining peace and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. * Agreement was reached to publish the present report after the standard publication date owing to circumstances beyond the submitters’ control.
