A/HRC/15/57 United Nations General Assembly Distr.: General 2 September 2010 Original: English Human Rights Council Fifteenth session Agenda item 4 Human rights situations that require the Council’s attention Update on the report of the independent expert on the situation of human rights in the Sudan, Mohammed Chande Othman* Status of implementation of the compilation of recommendations of the Group of Experts for the Government of the Sudan with regard to the implementation of Human Rights Council resolution 4/8, pursuant to Council resolutions 6/34, 6/35, 7/16 and 11/10** The present report is issued pursuant to Human Rights Council decision 14/117, in which the Council, noting that the independent expert on the situation of human rights in the Sudan was unable for medical reasons to present his report at the fourteenth session, decided to proceed with a technical extension of the mandate of the expert until the end of the fifteenth session to allow an interactive dialogue to be held with him. In the decision, the Council also stated that it was understood that the independent expert would continue his work until the end of the fifteenth session and would be in a position to complement his report thereupon, if he so decided, at that session. Summary The present report follows up on the first report of the independent expert on the status of implementation of the compilation of recommendations of the Group of Experts to the Government of the Sudan for the implementation of Human Rights Council resolution 4/8, pursuant to Council resolutions 6/34, 6/35, 7/16 and 11/10 (A/HRC/14/41/Add.1). The response of the Government of the Sudan was not submitted in time to be taken into account in the first report. The present report focuses on the response provided by the Government on 17 May 2010 and additional information subsequently obtained from other sources, including the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur, the * ** GE.10-15820 Late submission.
