A/HRC/18/10 77. With regard to the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals, the delegation referred to the Government’s Agenda for Change, which had been transformed into the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper II. This Paper was informed by the MDGs and incorporated strategies for the attainment of those Goals. The Government was actively engaged in meeting the Goals within a time framework. 78. Since 2007 Sierra Leone had adopted a new mines and minerals policy and enacted legislation and regulations governing the exploitation of natural resources and the distribution of mineral wealth within the country. Sierra Leone was a candidate country of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and expected to be considered under this initiative’s process in the near future. Sierra Leone was mindful of the importance of the careful management of resources as one of the findings of the Truth Commission was that country’s mineral resources, although not a direct cause of the conflict, had contributed to its prolongation. 79.
