Regarding sexual and gender-based recommends that the Government: abuse, the Special Rapporteur (a) Ensure that all detainees remain under the direct supervision of guards and law enforcement officers of the same gender at all times, including during transfers; (b) Ensure that no guards, law enforcement officers or other persons of the opposite gender, except for close family members or the required medical personnel, are present during body searches, strip searches and any other physical examinations; (c) Ensure that medical examinations and consultations of all detainees are conducted in full confidence, without the supervision of guards and law enforcement officers; (d) Include the examination and investigation of sexual and gender-based violence into the standard examination of torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment in accordance with the criteria of the Istanbul Protocol. 21
