Summary
In his report, the Special Rapporteur on the implications for human rights of the
environmentally sound management and disposal of hazardous substances and wastes,
Baskut Tuncak, presents a final set of principles to help States, businesses and other key
actors respect and protect workers from toxic occupational exposures and to provide
remedies for violations of their rights. The principles contained in the report are rooted in
nearly 25 years of work under the mandate, including country visits, thematic research and
communications with States and non-State actors, as well as intensive, targeted
consultations undertaken since 2017. The report was prepared pursuant to Human Rights
Council resolution 36/15.
* Agreement was reached to publish the present report after the standard publication date owing to
circumstances beyond the submitter’s control.
