A/HRC/20/20
The Special Rapporteur analyses the importance of solid knowledge and
understanding of international human rights law and legal education in the appointment,
career and promotion of magistrates, judges, prosecutors and public defenders. She
analyses the main challenges faced, particularly the lack of adequate resources, and gender
sensitivity issues in the training of judges and lawyers.
The Special Rapporteur concludes the report with a series
recommendations in order to encourage the development and improve the
training activities, as well as their effectiveness. Capacity-building activities in
of international human rights law are an important instrument to clear away
against human rights, and to promote and protect them more effectively.
