A/HRC/44/13/Add.1 Response of the Government of Grenada to 148 recommendations 1. Grenada welcomes the recommendations made at the occasion of the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review in Geneva on January 27, 2020. Following the review, the National Coordinating Committee which comprises various government ministries and nongovernmental organizations; along with civil society evaluated the recommendations in an attempt to draft plans for the implementation of the accepted recommendations. 2. Grenada is pleased to advise that of the 148 recommendations that it received during the 3rd cycle review, 99 were accepted and 49 were noted. Grenada’s responses to the recommendations are organized into thematic areas as presented in the table below. Recommendation State position Comments Thematic area 1: Cooperation with the OHCHR 94.1 Accepted Grenada supports this recommendation and has engaged the OHCHR at least twice during its second UPR cycle and plans for future engagement; particularly with respect to the establishment of its National Human Rights Institution. Thematic area 2: Cooperation with treaty bodies 94.2, 94.3, 94.4 Accepted Grenada accepts these recommendations and has undertaken to establish a mechanism to ensure that overdue reports are submitted. Thematic area 3: Scope of international obligation 2 94.5 Accepted The Government of Grenada ratified CO 29-Forced Labour Convention, 1930 (NO.29) on July 9, 1979. Given that the United Nations considers that PO 29- Protocol 2014 to the Forced Labour Convention 1930 should be ratified and implemented; Government will consider ratification after holding dialogue with social partners and other stakeholders. 94.6 Accepted Grenada supports this recommendation. 94.7 Accepted Grenada accepts this recommendation. Grenada has already ratified 7 core human rights treaties and will continue to examine its capacity to accede to others. 94.8, 94.9, 94.14 Accepted Grenada supports these recommendations. It should be noted that Grenada’s Education Act 2002 encourages inclusiveness; emphasizing that the State must provide opportunities for everyone. 94.10 Noted Grenada will continue to ratify treaties/conventions that are in keeping with its current realities and it resource capacity. At present there isn’t an indigenous community in Grenada; therefore Grenada notes this recommendation. 94.11, 94.12 Accepted Grenada supports these recommendations. The Government of Grenada ratified CO 97 Migration for Employment Convention, 1949 on July 9, 1979. 94.13 Accepted Grenada supports this recommendation as is evident by its ratification of the Convention of the Rights of the Child in 1990.
