mobile offices. In 2019, the OMP opened two regional offices in Mannar and Matara, and
proposes to open its third regional office in Jaffna during the latter part of the year.
It hopes these offices can be
opened promptly and with
sufficient human resources to
ensure accessibility.
Amnesty

Families of the Disappeared
OMP commissioners are very friendly. They promise that they will adopt a victim – centred
approach. But nothing has happened yet.
ICJ
According to the Chairperson of the OMP, the Office is planning on establishing 12 regional
offices. Having opened the first in Matara, it is looking to operationalise at least 6 offices by
the end of 2019 in order to make the Office more accessible to the victims and to reduce the
inconvenience of them having to travel to Colombo to get in touch with the office. He also
stated that the Office is committed to opening sub-offices in the form of mobile offices.
The OMP is committed to ensuring that its public documents are available in English, Sinhala
and Tamil. The OMP developed its complaints procedure, CoA application and instruction
materials, and outreach resources in all three languages. The OMP’s press releases, Interim
Report, Annual Report and all social media posts were released in all three languages.
Additionally, the OMP launched a trilingual communications campaign over broadcast and
digital media, which sought to raise awareness of the multiple contexts in which enforced
disappearances have occurred in Sri Lanka.

The Working Group welcomes
information from the OMP that it
is committed to ensuring public
documents are available in the
three languages and has already
issued various trilingual reports
and communications. However,
it notes that there appears to be
concerns on this aspect among
some civil society groups and
encourages the OMP to ensure
that all documents are available
